Good news! Recent updates indicate that the ETIAS travel authorization will NOT be implemented until 2025. Therefore you should not worry about this anymore.
ETIAS HOMEPASSPORT
The only document you MUST have with you went entering Italy is your Passport. Please ensure your passport was issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least 3 months after you leave Italy

There are currently no COVID related entry restrictions. However please consider getting boosted before your trip to avoid getting sick while traveling.
